     Do you know about Egg and Bacon Pie? I didn’t until one of my favorite authors included it in some of her work and I became curious about it. Kerry Greenwood is a terrific writer! I first discovered her book “Cocaine Blues” on a library shelf  several years ago; it introduced me to her strong, smart, smart and stylish detective, the fabulous Miss Phryne Fisher.     Water-Proofed Bread, Who Knew?

    Today I made bread using a crazy method and relying on total faith in the Bread Baking Babes and well, to be fair, also faith in James Beard. I mean, who would come up with the idea of wrapping bread dough into a towel and submerging it in a big bowl of water to proof? I guess that would be James Beard, in his book “Beard on Bread” from 1973 and I guess it would be Elle from Feeding My Enthusiasms who would choose it for this month’s bake along. Crazy I tell you.     Today I make Pomanders

    Today I am making pomanders. Do you remember them from childhood? They always make the house smell like Christmas memories to me. Just get some oranges and whole cloves and push the pointed end of the clove into the orange’s peel. That’s it. You can add a ribbon or whatever if you want to get fancy. MMM. Smells good! FYI I find that my local Asian market usually has the best and least expensive whole cloves. The ones I just bought were 99 cents for about a half cup of cloves. Good deal!
