Autumn Harvest Soup of the Fall Garden
Oh it’s been so long since I have been here. It has been an interesting year and I feel the need to nourish those I love. This warming and delicious soup is just the thing to do that. Red Kuri Soup, the Potimarron I grew for Dorie’s Recipe and a side of Cuban Bread
This is a Red Kuri or Potimarron squash. I grew it specifically to try the recipe for Beatrix’s Red Kuri Soup from Dorie Greenspan’s book “Around my French Table.” Okay, so I admit I am patient er crazy er committed enough to do such a thing- really anyone who knows me has already accepted er learned to live with that fact. :) I found the seeds at Cherry Gal Heirloom Seeds and ordered a packet. I planted and watered and tended and waited. I ignored the fact that I also had planted a Patty Pan and it and the Potimarron cross pollinated to an interesting combination and I only got one mature and one immature “true” Potimarron squash…

Some comfort food for my poor, sick Rick
 Rick, my sweet, has been laid low with a bad cold for the last three days. I actually enjoy taking care of him although I must admit he’s been a bit of a right grumpy old Eeyore! He is a worker bee through and through and does not like to lay about so keeping him down is a challenge! First thing is to start killing off the germ factory in the throat so I heat the freshly squeezed juice of one whole lemon until it’s boiling hot, add a shot of good Woodford Reserve Bourbon Whiskey and a teaspoon of honey (I love local honey such as from Zoe’s Garden or nationally Savannah Bee Company’s Black Sage…
